Our Minimally Invasive Facial Cosmetic Procedures

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

With the normal aging process, the brows descend with time. This causes fullness of the upper eyelid skin. With time, the fullness of the upper eyelid can cause difficulties with the lateral gaze, making driving a motorized vehicle dangerous. The blepharoplasty is a quick procedure that can reduce that malposed skin and add youthfulness to the middle third of the face.

The lower eyelid can also be rejuvenated. The "tear trough deformity" is caused by extruded fat from the area below the eyeball causing fullness of the lower eyelid. In the lower blepharoplasty, that "excess" fat is removed, and a "skin pinch" removal of skin is also performed.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Sometimes, the best treatment for low brows (brow ptosis) is an actual lifting. With the endoscopic brow lift, a small camera is used to direct the surgeon in modifying the internal part of the brow to allow its superior repositioning. This procedure is sometimes done with a conservative blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the area around the eyes.

Nose Surgery

With a rhinoplasty, the surgeon can modify almost any part of the nose. Patients with bony protrusions at the dorsum (dorsal hump), boxy tips, and even the diameter of the nostrils can be modified. Wide nasal bones can be reduced to a more cosmetically pleasing shape and size. During a cosmetic rhinoplasty, some breathing issues can also be corrected. A deviated nasal septum and collapsed internal valves of the nose can be corrected, with the end result for the patient being better nasal breathing.

Ear Surgery

Ear deformities that cause an unfavorable cosmetic display can make people feel self-conscious and reduce their self-esteem. In an otoplasty, the surgeon can set back protruding ears and reduce the size of the ear cartilage, improving their appearance. Children can have otoplasties as soon as they become self-conscious about their ear appearance.

Earlobes can also be modified for a better cosmetic appearance. For example, they can be easily corrected if they are stretched or torn from heavy earrings.

Facial Implants

Any part of the face can be modified or altered to achieve the desired look. Different materials can be used to accentuate the cheeks, chin, and angles of the mandible. Lip implants can permanently enhance the lips. There is little downtime after these procedures, and the results are seen immediately.

Ideal Candidates for Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Ideal candidates for facial cosmetic surgery are adults who want to enhance or change their facial features by undergoing a surgical procedure to achieve long-lasting, usually permanent results. Candidates should be non-smokers in good overall health and free from underlying health conditions that may complicate their recovery. Candidates with realistic expectations regarding their procedure results will benefit greatly from facial cosmetic surgery.

While facial cosmetic surgeries are safe and effective, they are not meant for everyone. If you have the following health conditions, you may not be an eligible candidate for facial cosmetic surgery:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Auto-immune disease
  • Currently pregnant
  • Currently breastfeeding
  • Active infections
  • Overweight

How Can Facial Cosmetic Surgery Enhance Your Appearance?

Facial cosmetic surgery can enhance and change your facial features in many ways. This all depends on the type of procedure you undergo. Different from dermal fillers, a cosmetic surgical procedure can provide longer-lasting results to provide the following benefits:

  • Eliminate deep creases and fine lines
  • Remove excess skin and define or contour the face shape
  • Restore a youthful appearance to the face

  • Achieve a lifted appearance

Dermal Fillers

Cheek Augmentation

For cheek augmentation, we use Juvéderm Voluma XC. This product lifts and contours the cheek.

As we age and the fat pads in the cheek area descend, we lose the youthful volume of the cheek area. This change also helps form the folds in the lateral part of our mouth (nasolabial folds).

With Voluma XC, the surgeon can easily correct the age-related volume loss in the cheeks to help create a more youthful appearance. The procedure creates a subtle lift that can last up to two years. If desired, the patient can go back to work immediately.

Lip Augmentation

For lip augmentation, we use several products. The product used will depend on the amount of lip augmentation desired.

Juvéderm Ultra XC is the product of choice for correcting significant volume deficits. This product adds more fullness and plumps thin lips. It can help correct lips that have thinned out due to the aging process or if you have thin lips and are still young. This product typically lasts 6-8 months.

For subtle lip augmentation Juvéderm Volbella XC is a great alternative. This product is tailored to add subtle volume to the lips and smooth the appearance of vertical lip lines, also called smokers' lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX is the ideal choice to smooth out the wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and in the lateral part of the eyes. BOTOX has been in use since the late 80s and has a proven record of safety and effectiveness. The area between the brows typically will need 20-25 units of BOTOX, while the forehead will use 25-30 units. The patient will start to see results in 3 days, and the maximum effect will be seen in about two weeks. The effect of BOTOX will last 3-6 months but will also depend on the patient's muscle strength and muscle volume. The patient can go to work immediately after the injections.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can provide natural-looking results when enhancing your facial features. Everything from reducing the appearance of wrinkles to adding volume to the cheeks or lips can be achieved with dermal fillers. Other benefits include:

  • Eliminating signs of aging
  • Reducing the appearance of wrinkles
  • Achieving facial symmetry
  • Adding volume in sunken areas of the face
  • Smooth creases and fine lines on the face

Ideal Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

The ideal candidate for dermal fillers is someone who is a non-smoker and in good overall health. Anyone who wants to achieve natural-looking enhancements to their face but does not want to undergo a surgical procedure can benefit from dermal fillers. Candidates should also have realistic expectations regarding the appearance of their results.

Dermal fillers can provide the best results to patients aged 22 and older. They can correct signs of aging and achieve symmetry in areas such as the face, jawline, and even the hands.

Although dermal fillers are FDA-approved, patients with underlying health conditions or those allergic to the ingredients in dermal fillers will not be recommended for this treatment.

FAQs

Can I Combine Facial Cosmetic Surgery with Other Procedures?

Yes. Certain facial cosmetic surgeries, such as facelifts, brow lifts, and blepharoplasty, can be combined with other procedures. Combining multiple procedures can benefit patients by reducing recovery time and minimizing the number of surgeries needed.

How Long Do the Results of Dermal Fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic Last?

BOTOX Cosmetic results generally last between 3 to 4 months. BOTOX relaxes the targeted muscles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Over time, the body breaks it down, and muscle movement gradually returns.

Fillers restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance contours. They break down as the body metabolizes the product.

The results of dermal fillers range from 6 months to 2 years. Filler type plays a critical role:

  • Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: Fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane last 6–18 months.
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite: Fillers like Radiesse last up to 12–18 months.
  • Poly-L-Lactic Acid: Fillers like Sculptra can last up to 2 years.
  • Fat Transfer: Autologous filler results may last several years but can vary.

What Is the Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Facial Implants for Adding Volume to the Face?

Dermal fillers are non-surgical. Treatment takes approximately 30–60 minutes with minimal downtime. They work best for patients looking for a temporary solution to add volume to areas like cheeks, lips, jawline, or under the eyes.

Facial implants are solid, biocompatible materials (e.g., silicone) that enhance facial structure and volume. This surgical procedure is performed under anesthesia. Your provider places the implants through small incisions, often inside the mouth or along natural creases.

The results are permanent and long-lasting, though your provider can remove or adjust them if necessary. They work best for patients seeking a permanent solution to address facial volume loss or enhance contouring.

How Soon Can I Return To Normal Activities After a Minimally Invasive Procedure?

The time it takes to return to normal activities after a minimally invasive facial cosmetic procedure varies. It depends on the treatment performed, individual healing, and the extent of the procedure. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Light Activities: Most patients can go back to light activities within 24-48 hours.
  • Strenuous Exercise: Avoid intense workouts for at least 1-2 weeks.
  • Swelling and Bruising: These are common side effects but resolve within a few days to weeks.

How Do I Decide Which Facial Procedure Will Give Me the Results I Want?

To determine the best solution for you, take the following steps:

  • Identify Your Concerns: Are you targeting wrinkles, volume loss, sagging skin, or structural imbalance?
  • Consider Downtime and Longevity: Options like BOTOX and fillers have little downtime but are temporary. Surgical options like brow lifts and implants offer permanent results with longer recovery times.
  • Consult an Expert: A skilled provider like Dr. Johnson can tailor a treatment plan that aligns with your goals. They will ensure you find a solution that meets your needs.
